There is no time for boredom with easy access to activities, walks, discoveries and relaxation. The island is a dream retirement destination under the tropical sun!

Retirement in Mauritius as a foreigner

The minimum age to be considered as a retired foreign resident in Mauritius is 50. Two options are available if you are looking to spend your retirement in the country.

You can make an initial minimum transfer of USD 1,500, or the equivalent in foreign currency, to a local bank account in your name. You will be entitled to a residence permit valid for a three-year period, during which you will be required to transfer a monthly minimum of USD 1,500, or the equivalent in foreign currency. The permit can subsequently be extended for 20 years.

You may also qualify for a residence permit by purchasing a property under one of the three schemes introduced by the Government of Mauritius and the Economic Development Board (EDB) in order to attract foreign direct investment in the local property market: the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), the Real Estate Scheme (RES) and the Property Development Scheme (PDS).

For more information about these schemes, visit the Economic Development Board (EDB) website.
